Consular Corps in Finland hosts luncheons and other events regularly. Members of the Diplomatic Corps of all Embassies in Helsinki are invited to most of the events so Ambassadors, Career Consuls and other Diplomates are welcome to join the activities – invitations to all Embassies in Finland  are sent to every event held in English (see below, “Event will be in English” mentioned). 

Konsulikunta kokoontuu säännöllisesti lounas- ja muiden tilaisuuksien muodossa ja tapahtumiin ovat tervetulleita kaikki diplomaattikunnan edustajat.  /  Konsulskåren  arrangerar för sina medlemmar månatligen lunchtillställningar med högklassiga föredrag, företags-, samfunds- och landsortsbesök samt visiter på olika länders ambassader.

The Annual General Meeting of the association of Consular Corps in Finland was held in Helsinki on 17 April, 2023. The meeting was opened with a very interesting presentation by Mr. Mika Aaltola, Director of Finnish Institute of International Affairs.

One of the issues to be decided under the Articles of the Association annually is the new Board and we are pleased to share the Members:

Mr. Johan Grotenfelt, Hon. Consul of Nicaragua, continues as the Chairman of the Board and Dean of the Consular Corps, as elected for the 2nd chapter of three years in 2022. Other Members of the Board are:

Chairman of the Board Johan Grotenfelt thanked Wille Eerola, Hon. Consul General of Pakistan for his work and active input during over five years as Secretary of Consular Corps.

Consular Corps visited Tampere region on 31 March – 1 April, 2023. The extensive program included e.g. meetings with the representatives of local government, Chamber of Commerce, Business Tampere and Nokia Areena.

Consular Corps wish to express our biggest gratitudes to our consular colleagues in Tampere and further to all hosts for your valuable time and hospitality.

Consular Corps had a great pleasure to visit EMMA museum in Espoo, Finland with an internationally unique collection of Finnish ceramics and glass art, collected by Mr. Kyösti Kakkonen, well-known businessman and Honorary Consul of Hungary who also hosted the visitors into the magic of his collection.

Bridging the gap between art and design, Collection Kakkonen has been brought together over the course of 35 years by prominent businessman and collector Kyösti Kakkonen, subsequently gaining recognition as the most significant collection of unique and limited-edition Finnish glass and ceramics in the world.

Collection Kakkonen includes more than 10,000 items, of which 1,300 works are lent to EMMA in a long-term co-operation agreement with specific highlights being exhibited regularly. Design classics and works by some of the most important artists and designers from the golden age of Finnish design (1930s–60s) to today will be exhibited alongside next generation figures, creating an unparalleled insight into the story of Finnish craftsmanship. The exhibition is a collaboration between Kyösti Kakkonen, EMMA and the City of Espoo and it has been curated by EMMA’s curator Aura Vilkuna. The exhibition architecture has been designed by design studio Aivan.

Representatives of Consular Corps in Finland had a great pleasure to join a Xmas Lunch hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr. Kai Sauer, Under-secretary of State for foreign and security policy.

Once again, we want to thank ministry and our wonderful host Mr. Kai Sauer for amazing closing of the 2022 season.

Consular Luncheon was organized at the Helsinki Finnish Club on Monday, 21 November.

Mr Teemu Turunen, Deputy Director of Finnish Security and Intelligence Service (SUPO) joined as the Chief Guest with his presentation. Thanks all for joining!

Consular Corps and representatives of foreign missions joined for a corporate visit and tis time to the global head office of NOKIA, in Espoo, Finland.

The first event of Consular Corps Fall 2022 was held at the Suomalainen Klubi in Helsinki on Tuesday, Sept 20.

Around 30 representatives of Consular Corps joined to listen to some very actual words by Mr. Antti Kaikkonen, Finland’s Minister of Defense, one of the key persons in the current development of Finland towards coming NATO membership.

The Members of Board of Consular Corps with a some Consular Colleagues visited Åland and city of Marieham on 24-25 August.

A group of Honorary Consuls in Pirkanmaa Region, Central Finland and Kanta-Häme Region joined for a regional summer meeting in Tampere on August 10, hosted by Ms. Kati Tähtinen, Hon. Consul of Spain in Tampere.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Kai Sauer, Under-Secretary of State shared his current overview of Finland’s foreign and security policy, including issues like NATO Membership, technology and international diplomacy. Mr. Johan Grotenfelt, Dean of Consular Corps, Hon. Consul of Nicaragua expressed the world of thanks

Day also included a visit to journalist Rauli Virtanen’s exhibition “From Saigon to Kyiv 1972-2022” in Tampere-talo, hosted by Ms. Paulina Ahokas, Managing Director of Tampere Hall.
